John abandoned his buttons and caught Leo's face in a soft hand to kiss him deeply. He tasted of ash, though his tongue was oddly sweet.

"Good enough plan," he whispered, stepping in close as he could before capturing his lips again.

It felt like it had been an eternity since he'd last been kissed, and while falling into bed with a professor wasn't the best idea he'd ever had, he couldn't help but return the kiss with a moan of want.

John tugged at his shirt until he could slip his hand beneath and Sim his palm over warm skin.

It was an awful idea, but John was weak. He gasped softly as Leo's ribs warmed his hand.

John's stubble was rough against his palm as Leo brushed his hand over his jaw, holding him closer as he deepened the kiss. The man's hand on his ribs was warm and inviting, and he wasn't shy as he arched against him.

He'd always been a sucker for an older lover. Especially, but not limited to, men. He was sure a therapist would have a lot to say about that, but Leo boiled it down to one thing and one thing alone. He wanted to be taken care of. It was the one thing money couldn't get him, the one thing he'd been denied since birth- And he was starved for it.

As the kiss intensified, John used both hands to strip Leo's shirt off and moved to trail kisses along his collar bone. There was nothing more exciting than someone new, except someone new who wanted him. John wasn't delusional, he knew exactly what he was. Just an old wizard with a bit of influence and a sweet smile. He didn't have much to offer anyone, and he was fine with that.

They all graduated or got promoted, anyway.

"My God, you're perfect," he said softly, moving back to look at him. "S'pose we should talk about what you like, Leo. I'm not a fan of surprises, but I'm awfully flexible."

Leo hesitated then- Partly because he'd never really been asked, and partly because he wasn't sure.

"No one's ever described me as surprising," he replied, because he wasn't sure how else to answer. "...What do you like?" he asked, making it painfully obvious this wasn't a conversation he'd had before.

"I like a little bit of everything," he smiled. "But the first time...I like to go slow. I like to learn everything I can about what drives you wild."

"Planning on getting invited back?" Leo asked. "I figured you're only here because you know it would have pissed off my father."

[petty_dabbler]

"I don't give a toss about your father, love. I'm here because I want you," he said, his voice low and warm.

John reached to stroke his face, his thumb tracing the sharp line of his cheekbone.

"I like you, Leo. You're smart, you're funny, and you've got a kind heart. All very attractive qualities."

That just made it sound like John didn't know him at all. No one had ever accused him of kindness. If anything, he was known to be a mouthy asshole.

"Think you're confusing me with someone else there, Professor. I'm not kind, and I don't care about being seen as such. I look after me and me alone, okay?"

"I see a lot of your mum in you, Leo," John said, then immediately wished he could take it back.

Cockblocking himself. True to form.

"Gross," Leo replied, pulling away and sitting down on the edge of his bed.

"Not like that," John said, stepping back. "I just mean I can see more of her than your dad in you. You've got this reputation, and I respect that, but I can tell you don't want your dad's legacy."

[leo_rooks]

"My mum wasn't some saint, you know? ...She knew what he was doing," Leo replied. "I remember telling her once that we should leave him. You know what she told me? That I was being dramatic."

There was so much more to it, but now was not thetime. In fact, John thought, it might bebest to keep Leo in the dark about some of the things he knew about the couple. He'd have a happier life.

John moved in and sat next to him on the edge of the bed. A light hand laid on his knee.

"That right there is what I mean. You could have run. But you wanted to save her, too."

Leo was quiet for a long beat, then wet his lips.

"I think part of me thought she was a victim. But I learned later... She never cared about me, neither of them did. I don't think they even cared for each other. It was all about getting what they both wanted."

John reached out to touch his cheek again.

"I'm sorry," he said. "For everything they were, and everything they weren't. You never deserved any of that, Leo," he assured him.

Leo leaned into the touch, closing his eyes.

"For all you know I'm as bad as them. Maybe I just hide it better."

It was bullshit, but part of Leo wanted people to fear him. Part of him wanted to keep them all at arms length.

"If you want to think that, I'll let you," John said, then kissed his shoulder. Then his jaw,

Then his lips, softly, just in case Leo had genuinely lost interest.

Leo couldn't help but return the kiss, enjoying the soft press of lips and the taste of John.

"If I was, would you still want me tonight?" he asked.

"I think I would, yeah," he said.

John moved back enough to get out of his shirt, revealing several occult tattoos- some protection, some angelic, and some the darkest magic...

Leo recognized many of them, his fingers reaching out and tracing over a particularly nasty one. His own body had no marks, not even a tiny scar. No ink, no signs of anything but a pampered life.

"Lot of ink," he noted without judgement.

John nodded.

"They help with the job," he said. His skin lit up with every light brush of a fingertip. Unable to resist, he kissed him again. If the tattoo's didn't drive him away, John found a bit more confidence.

Leo returned the kiss softly, but he seemed less sure of himself now. Some of that confidence had faded.

"Is this going to be weird later?" he asked between kisses.

"It doesn't need to be," he replied as he paused and searched for Leo's eyes.

"It won't be for me," he promised.

"You've done this before then? Affairs with students? ...And, what? No awkward moment in the classroom after? No discomfort if it turns sour?" Leo asked.
