The day was finally done. He shooed out the last of the students, swung the door closed, and lit a cigarette right there in the basement.

These children were going to be the death of him. Maybe he could convince Guy to teach a lesson or two on pertinent symbols.

With his cig in his mouth, John rolled up his sleeves and sat cross legged in the center of a circle surrounded my mystical runes and symbols. The circle began to glow gold as he performed the ritual to strengthen the protections in the Dark Arts room. John was sure they were one student fuck up away from a schoolwide disaster.

"Yeah, I'm sure," he nodded.

"So you're getting on since Hex stepped in? That's good. Housing squabbles are a pain. I've had a couple students sleep on my sofa while admin rearranged things. Nothing weird, I just have the nicest sofa," John grinned.

"Yeah, Hex and I are much more friendly now, Wyn assured him with a warm smile. "It's nice not being uncomfortable in my own dorm."

John caught the smile and smiled himself. He knew Hex, and he knew Hex's reputation.

"Wyn, can I give you some advice?"

"Sure," he nodded, leaning in to listen.

[petty_dabbler]

"Keep your mind on your studies and dont go falling in love with anyone," he said, knowing from years of experience he wouldn't heed it. No one ever did.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Oh, no- No it's not... I mean, he's lovely, and handsome, and... Hot. But I- I'm very focused on my studies, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't want me like that. I was-"

Probably just a fun night for him.

"I was just thankful he helped me."

John nodded, not buying it at all.

"How are your classes going?" he asked then.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Good! I'm really enjoying potions. House has offered to give me private lessons to learn to brew something that might help me manage my pheromones," he added excitedly.

[petty_dabbler]

"That's a good idea," he agreed. "And House is the best I've ever met. You're lucky to learn from him. I'm glad he likes you enough for private lessons. He doesn't like most people."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"No? He's been very kind to me," Wyn admitted. "As have you," he smiled- Those pheromones escaping just a little.

"You're easy to be kind to," he said. A moment later John decided that it was definitely cake he smelled.

Wyn smiled softly, not meaning to offer such a flirty look to the older man.

...Well, okay, maybe he meant to a little.

John was no more immune to the charms of students than Amy other professor. Wyn's Ile was sweet and warm and John felt a genuine affection.

"You're pretty when you smile," he said softly.

"You're pretty all the time," Wyn said, immediately looking embarrassed by his words.

"Wyn, are you flirting?" John asked, sort of teasing but mostly curious. The older he got, the fewer and fewer students made advances.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"No... I mean, unless that's okay," Wyn said awkwardly.

[petty_dabbler]

John considered that a moment as he toyed with his glass.

"It's fine," he assured him. "I just wanted to make sure so I don't make an ass of myself."

[prince_of_nymphs]

Wyn laughed softly, assuming John was just teasing him.

"You're very mean to me, professor. I bet you toy with all your students who harbour a crush."

John looked at him with a tender gaze, his eyes dark an gentle.

"I'm not mean," he promised.

Wyn blushed again, ducking his head. It was stupid, but John's attention made him feel special. Perhaps because he was a professor, and that ought to be off limits... Wyn wasn't sure, he just knew it was nice.

John could see Wyn fancied him a bit. The way that stroked his ego was obscene. John wasn't lonely, there was always someone to take a tumble with, but to be looked at like that? To be thought of? Dreamed about? That rubbed him just right.

"I really enjoy you, you know?" he smiled.

"You do?" Wyn asked, smiling warmly. "I'm touched. I enjoy you too."

[petty_dabbler]

"You should come round," he said. "You know, after class. Or after dinner..."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Really?" Wyn asked. "What about, um, tonight?" he suggested awkwardly.

[petty_dabbler]

"I'd like that," he nodded.

It was foolish. He always got his heart a little broken by these beautiful young men. But, fuck, it was nice to be wanted. To be admired for a minute. Every one of them had moved on, as he expected them to, but it was always so good while it lasted.
