John had gotten as settled as he was able. He had a cabin, he'd been debriefed by a man with the most intensely blue eyes he'd ever seen, and he'd figured out a little bit of the etiquette. Like only smoking in designated areas.

He'd found a designated area and had a beer he'd replicated. Synthohol was the worst, but it was the best he could hope for so he drank his beer and had his smoke and admire the stars projected on the ceiling.

He heard the door open and looked over at who was coming in and his heart nearly stopped.

"Fawn," he said quietly and stood up.

After the faerie and the nurse, he knew this was going to hurt.

"Got you fooled," he said, turning his smile on Fawn. "I'm the biggest idiot of them all. Just trust me on that."

"Lies. No version of me would hang out with an idiot," Fawn grinned.

John chuckled softly shifting to face him.

"You never would," he agreed. He wanted to kiss him again so badly, but John kept that to himself.

"In your world do you know my brother?" Fawn asked.

[petty_dabbler]

"I do," he nodded. "He's a good friend. And sometimes lover," John admitted honestly.

"You pay him?" Fawn asked. "His service is in high demand."

[petty_dabbler]

John had said he wouldn't lie, and he intended to keep that promise even though his stomach squirmed nervously.

"No. We're friends. We've been lovers a long time. Before you were ever pulled into that dimension. But I saw you and..."

He sighed, then smiled.

"I love you both, but very differently. I'm not sure how to describe it."

"Oh," Fawn replied, not looking shocked or upset. "It makes sense if you like me you also like my twin. We are same, but not."

John nodded, relieved that Fawn didn't seem upset. He did, very slowly, reach out to take the being's hand.

"You're the one I was making a life with. Fin has Hex..."

"We are making life? I don't think I make life," Fawn replied. "I am a boy, if you did not know."

[petty_dabbler]

"No, no. Not babies," he chuckled. "A life. You built a house. We went to the zoo. A life together, see?"

[fawnthefae]

Fawn seemed confused, but nodded. He didn't want John knowing he didn't understand.

"I loved you. Him. More than anything," John said, his voice low as it squeezed it's way through his constricted throat.

"I have never been in love," Fawn said. "What does it feel like?"

[petty_dabbler]

"It's terrifying. And liberating. It feels like desire, but also care. Compassion. It feels...complete," he explained, inching just a bit closer.

"How do you do it? How do you get love?" Fawn pressed.

[petty_dabbler]

"First, you have to trust. And that's the hardest part," he said,, leaning in to kiss him, but stopping short so Fawn could make a choice.

Fawn seemed puzzled, but after a beat leaned in to meet him halfway, kissing him lightly.

John's eyes slipped closed and he savoured the softness of Fawn's lips. His head spun and he began to lose all ability to think...bt before he pushed for more, he slowly backed away.

"I could do that for hours," he confessed softly.

Fawn's silver blue skin went slightly pink as he ducked his head.

"It is nice," he admitted.

"You can do it again. Any time you like," he said.

"But I won't, unless you ask," John promised.

Fawn nodded a little, his stomach all fluttery and weird.

"Okay."

John offered a smile, then moved to lay down.

"Maybe a holiday will do us both some good," he smiled.

Fawn nodded, and he was quiet for a long moment before speaking again.

"What if I am not like the Fawn you know? What if you find you do not enjoy me?" he asked.

[petty_dabbler]

"I don't think that will happen," he replied. "Because you are..."

He stopped and thought.

"Adored. I adore you. Another kiss and I'll love you to the end."
