John had had a little run in with a gang of not particularly helpful occultists and there may have been a scuffle. If his split lip and bruised cheek were any indication, it had definitely been a scuffle.

John was tired and he didn't want to be alone. It wasn't as though he had many friends beating his door down to spend time with him, but he hoped...

He slipped into the bath, lit a cigarette, and kept his phone close in case Danny answered.

Danny had been feeling a bit drained lately. A cold, most likely. He'd been to the clinic, had fresh blood work done, but he wouldn't hear back for a least a week they'd said.

He was in bed when John's text came through, and he rolled onto his side as he picked the phone up off his bedside and clumsily texted back.

I'm a little under the weather. You can come over though, if you'd like.

He hit send and got to business of getting clean. So much for oaking until the water went cold.

He tugged on black jeans rather than his usual trousers. They needed a trip to the cleaners after today. He drove his disaster of a car and even though Danny had said he wasn't well, John stopped and grabbed a sandwich for himself and chicken soup for the other man.

He knocked and waited, fearing for a moment that if Danny was ill he may have fallen asleep.

Danny came to the door in an over-sized t-shirt and a pair of sleep shorts.

"Hey," he said with a tired smile, gesturing for John to come in.

"You said you were sick so I brought this," he said as he pulled out a styrofoam container. "Chicken soup. It'll keep if you're not hungry."

Danny looked so tired. John was sure he didn't need any of the warlock's bullshit tonight.

"Can I come in?"

"Thanks," Danny replied, taking the soup. "And of course. I'll try not to breathe too hard on you," he quipped lightly.

"I'm not too worried," he replied. "Can I make some coffee?"

"Yeah, of course," Danny replied, moving to settle in on the sofa with the soup. He was hungry, actually. He hadn't realized- He'd been in such a daze today.

"How have you been?" he asked.

"I've had better days. I got my arse kicked by some rotten punk kids," he said from the other room.

"I thought you looked a bit beat up, but I didn't want to say..." Danny replied.

"Yeah, I took a couple above the collar," he said. He got the coffee going then wandered back in.

"They were trying to do a summoning and didn't like that I thought they should stop."

"You're alright though?" Danny asked, looking a little worried.

[petty_dabbler]

"I'm fine. I'm getting a little old to be doing this dance, though," he replied as he sat near Danny and unwrapped his sandwich.

"Getting tired, old man?" Danny teased- However, the joke didn't really land when he looked so exhausted himself.

"Sometimes," he nodded. He gave Danny a knowing look, then tucked into his food.

Danny's smile faded and he curled up a little on the couch.

"I went to get new bloodwork done today," he admitted.

"Think your T cells are low?" John asked. He'd had too many friends with the disease to be shy about questions like that. "Are you taking your supplements?"

"I dunno, I won't know for a few days at least. I am taking my pills though, and the supplements," he replied, shrugging one shoulder.

"Be kind to yourself until you get the test results back," John said. "Sleep a lot. Things can wait."

Danny smiled faintly and nodded, pulling his feet up onto the sofa as he sipped his soup.

"Look at you, all caring and soft."

"Don't tell anyone," he chuckled.

"Your secret's safe with me," Danny assured him with a lopsided smile.

John chuckled behind a bite, taking time to chew and swallow.

"It's easy to care about you."

"Is it?" Danny asked, not so sure about that. So many people just didn't have time for him- Had given up on him long ago.

"It actually really is," he said. "You're an amazing man. I know we wind up in the bedroom, but I love just talking to you."

"I like talking to you too," Danny said honestly. "It's nice just spending time together. ...I don't make a lot of friends, to be honest."
