Broom and Cat - John and Nyx

John came to town for his supplies and before heading back to the portal, he stopped iin at the Broom and Cat. Hilda wasn't around anymore and he did miss the poor girl, but Hex was a good lad and John was happy to give him his coin.

He sat and began to look through his list, making sure he'd found everything. Everything that could be found, anyway. The only thing left was fae gold and John...wasn't entirely sure how he was going to get that. He only needed one coin, but the thought of being in debt to a fae made him uneasy.

"I get bored fast though. I stray," Nyx confessed.

[petty_dabbler]

"Does he know that?" he asked, puffing his pip slowly.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"I told him so," Nyx said. "That we aren't born to be monogamous too. He seemed unbothered. ...Do you think that's not true?"

[petty_dabbler]

John looked genuinely surprised.

"Did he tell you he was going to be monogamous?" he asked, truly shocked.

John knew how Hex ran the inn. What he'd do for money. Just like his nan had done.

"He did. I said he could still work, I didn't mind. He seemed to not want to."

And Nyx didn't really understand why."

"I hope you know he's lying. Maybe he means to, but he won't stay monogamous," John said. "Hex has always been...accomodating. As long as I've known him. Maybe...maybe you two should keep chatting about that, yeah?"

John couldn't mind his own business to save his life. That was part of why he liked coming to town. He loved knowing everyone's business.

"Oh," Nyx said softly, not sure why that upset him so.

"Right," he said quietly.

[petty_dabbler]

John was quiet for a moment, tapping his pipe empty and immediately packing it again.

"Why does that bother you?" he finally asked.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"I don't know," Nyx admitted. "I think because he seemed so excited to just have me."

[petty_dabbler]

"I have no doubt he is," John said. "It would be nice if he could, but Hex is..."

A bit dumb and terribly tenderhearted, he thought.

"...Kind. And he tries to help. And sometimes, that's...intimate."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Oh," Nyx said again, suddenly not feeling special at all.

"Um, I should go clean up a bit. It was nice meeting you. ...I kind of wish I hadn't though."

[petty_dabbler]

"That's how most people feel," John assured him gently.

"I'll talk to you again, Nyx. I'm sure."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"I don't know. I might not be here," was all Nyx said as he got up and slipped off to his room.

Hex was a bit busy, but when he noticed Nyx not talking to John anymore, he wandered around to look for him. Finding him in his room, he knocked on the open door.

"Can I come in? Are you alright?" he asked softly.

Nyx was sitting on the bed, thinking about packing.

"I was just... I was thinking maybe I shouldn't be here."

[just_hex]

"What? Why? Oh my god, Nyx...why would you say that?" he asked, coming closer.

"Was John rude?"

[prince_of_nymphs]

"No. No, he was lovely. ...But he- He said, um... I just think maybe I shouldn't be here," Nyx said quietly.

"He implied that what you said about only wanting me wasn't true. Which is fine, but- I don't know why you'd lie."

[just_hex]

"I didn't lie," he said, confused by why Nyx would think that.

He slowly sat on the ende of the bed, twisted to see him.

"Nyx...I only want you. Whatever he said...he doesn't know. He's just an old wizard with too many opinions."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"No, but- It's okay, if you do. Maybe you have a fae heart. Maybe you're very like me- Maybe you get bored, maybe you wander."

It hadn't occurred to Nyx at all that maybe he, himself, wouldn't actually want someone else now he had Hex.

[just_hex]

"Nyx, love, I don't go looking for lovers," he said. "I...I want you, though. Just you. I won't get bored. I'll just tell people with coin that I'll find them someone else..."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"You don't have to," he said softly. "Honest."

[just_hex]

Hex shifted uncomfortably.

"I never really liked it," he admitted, glancing at the floor. "I mean, it's a good time, yeah? But it never felt like...like it meant something, yeah?"

[prince_of_nymphs]

"I don't think it's meant to mean something, when one person pays," Nyx replied, looking puzzled.

[just_hex]

It took him a moment, but then he nodded slowly.

"It's not worth the money. That's not important. You're important," he said.

"And me? What if I can't do it?" Nyx asked, looking nervous. "What if I wander? Could you ever forgive me? I'm not sure if I could."
