John and Dinah had forged a partnership, as it were. John wasn't the most cuddly...but then neither was she. What mattered was that together they had a better chance of finding out what was going on. John had 'taken a meeting', as he'd called it, before he emerged from the bathroom soaking wet but with smoke rising from his charred clothes. He'd gotten information from someone he didn't trust, but knew was useful.
He and Dinah went to the old building and crept in through a broken window. Sneaking around a corner, they could see a ritual going on. Candles. Incense. Three goats and a young man, naked and bound in the center of a circle of sygils scrawled on the floor. John got out 'we have to stop...' but then leapt from hiding to charge the ritual. Dinah at his heel was just as late as John was. Candle flames flared and the boy and his goats all exploded in wet chaos. Both John and Dinah were doused head to foot in gore. A voice boomed from overhead in a language John didn't recognize and the head priest's eyes glowed.
The fight was brief. So brief it wasn't a fight at all. John and Dinah found themselves locked in a dark room. The walls were cold metal and there was no ventilation. John flicked open his zippo to take a look around. Inscribed around the door were more sygils.
"The good news," he announced, "Is I can get us out of here. The bad news is...you're not going to like it, love."
He looked at her with a dark, hungry gaze and tugged at his tie to undo it.
He clicked the zippo shut, leaving them in the dark.
