Fawn
John hadn't checked in with any contacts, he hadn't really read the papers, and hadn't been keeping on his fringe websites. He was in love, and he didn't want to waste a moment. He had no idea how long this was last, but he was all in...to the detriment of the rest of his life.
He'd taken Fawn out and they'd got 99's. The weather took a turn, though, and the pair found themselves eating ice cream in the rain under an awning. John smiled at him, but the smile fell as the rai stopped falling. Not ended, simply froze in the air. The curtain of water parted and ahandsome Black man with orange-gold eyes stepped.
"Constantine," he said, then looked at Fawn as if he was rubbish. "Fae."
"Manny," John replied, "What do you want?"
He subtly slipped closer to Fawn and put his arm around him protectively.

"Why did you do that?" Fawn asked curiously. There was no judgement there though, only interest.

John was quiet for a long moment.
"I was so full of myself. Was so sure I could control the demon. But he took her..." he confessed. Even now, after all these years, it was his biggest regret. His deepest shame.
no subject
"So it was in error, not malicious," Fawn said. "Yet you were punished? Cruel. Mistakes are to learn from."
no subject
"It wasn't a mistake. It was hubris. Ambition, mate. By that sin fell the angels," he said softly.
no subject
"Oh," Fawn said softly.
He didn't really understand the mortal gods, it all sounded so messy.
Much easier to be fae and do as one pleased.

John was quiet as he dished up the meal and passed Fawn a plate.
"I'm not a good man, Fawn. If you haven't caught on yet, you will," he said heavily.
no subject
"You are good to me," Fawn said simply, because that was all that mattered. John was kind to him, made him happy.
John was, to him, a good man.
no subject
"And you are very easy to be good to. Now eat. Tell me if it's shit," he said, forcing a lighthearted looking smile.
no subject
Fawn dug in, nibbling at his food.
"It is very edible," the fae said cheerfully.
no subject
"A high compliment," John smiled. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Edible was really the only honest thing you could say about it.

"If you ever wish to be away from the eye of your god, I would take you to my realm," Fawn offered after a moment. "If you needed space to breathe."
no subject
"That's kind, love, but I'm a danger to everything there. I try to not go where I know I'm not welcome," he replied. "I've been before. It's beautiful..."
no subject
"Oh," Fawn said quietly. "Okay."
no subject
"Are you missing home?" John asked.
no subject
"This is home," Fawn said, shaking his head. "But... I would like to show you the places I loved best, before I had a place and a person to love most."
no subject
"I'm game as long as you realize it'll be bloody dangerous," he replied. John had enemies everywhere, and he was certain the fae lands were no different.
no subject
"I will keep you safe," Fawn promised.
no subject
"Then we'll do it," he nodded. "It'll be a nice holiday."
He was sure Fawn would be the only nice part, but he'd keep an open mind.
no subject
Fawn smiled brightly at that, nodding and digging back into his meal.
no subject
"So, don't keep a man waiting," he said. "What sort of places are we going?"
no subject
"Where I was born, the Wyldwood. Perhaps we'll then go to the cherry mountains. I spent a lot of time wandering there once my mother sent me into the wild," Fawn replied.
no subject
"Tell me about it?" John asked. Fawn had such a way of saying things and the exorcist could happily listen to him all day, talking about anything.
no subject
"I was born in the depths of the Wyld. Where the trees grow tall and the branches weave together to block out the sun. The cherry mountains are very different though. Trees there bloom year round, with flowers of pink and white. From a distance they look like pink mountains. They are beautiful," Fawn replied.
no subject
"How small were you when you went off on your own?" John asked curiously.
no subject
"I reached my seventh year before my mother sent me out into the wild," Fawn replied, as though that were perfectly normal. ...And it was for many trooping.
