Fawn
John hadn't checked in with any contacts, he hadn't really read the papers, and hadn't been keeping on his fringe websites. He was in love, and he didn't want to waste a moment. He had no idea how long this was last, but he was all in...to the detriment of the rest of his life.
He'd taken Fawn out and they'd got 99's. The weather took a turn, though, and the pair found themselves eating ice cream in the rain under an awning. John smiled at him, but the smile fell as the rai stopped falling. Not ended, simply froze in the air. The curtain of water parted and ahandsome Black man with orange-gold eyes stepped.
"Constantine," he said, then looked at Fawn as if he was rubbish. "Fae."
"Manny," John replied, "What do you want?"
He subtly slipped closer to Fawn and put his arm around him protectively.

"I'm glad you did," he replied softly.
"You can do more now than just survive," he added.

Fawn seemed to think about that for a long moment, then nodded in agreement.
"That is true. I no longer worry about being harmed. I have a home. ...I have you."

"It's a dream come true," he smiled.
Too good to be true, more like. He couldn't shake the feeling he was going to bring doom to the sweet nymph.

John polished it off, too. Full and happy.
"How do you want to spend the rest of our night?" he asked. "Want to help me with a reading?"

"I would enjoy that, yes. I want cards like yours," the fae added as he got up and started to wash up. "Where would I find some?"

"The paper ones I use? You can buy them at book shops and wotnot," he said. "My special deck...you'll never find another like it. It's very special."
John got up to take the dishes away, lighting a cigarette the second he put them in the sink.
"That kind of deck comes to you if it wants you, whether you want it to or not."

"Oh," Fawn replied. "I have never had cards follow me home."

John retrieved his cards from the trunk and returned to the table. The paper cards were wrapped in a cloth, but there was a wooden box as well. He opened the lid to reveal the cards. Each was a slice of ivory, hand painted by some Italian during the Renaissance. John offered them to Fawn.
"Be gentle, and they'll be good to you," he smiled.

Fawn took them, handling them gingerly and then starting to carefully shuffle.
"You have many decks? Many followed you?" he asked.

"Just the two," he said, holding up the paper deck. "These are for when I need a fast answer, those are for when I need the truth."

"I see," Fawn replied, shuffling more, then handing the cards back
