Alwyn - After Pride
John had picked up fish and chips and was keeping them warm in the oven. He'd taken a shower and shaved and was settled in with a beer and an old sci fi show he'd liked when he was a lad.
The whole time he went through the motions, John's stomach was a knot. He didn't like the idea of Alwyn in a crowd alone. A loud crowd. He'd almost hoped to find the man had beaten him home...but no.
He was half dozing when he heard the door and perked right up.

Alwyn nodded a little, but remained curled up on the sofa.
"I don't think Hex much likes you. ...After tonight, I don't think I much like him."
no subject
"I don't much care what Hex thinks of me," he replied. John carried his plate back over.
"And I wouldn't like him if I were you. Not if he ain't going to be around much longer."
no subject
Alwyn nodded a bit, curling up a little in the corner of the sofa.
"That's probably true."
no subject
"Alwyn, if I can tell you anything, be choosy about friends. You should only have people in your life who you feel good about giving your time to."
God knew he had a string of ill advised "friends".

"I think Hex is nice, I just- Corbin would be hurt, I think," he explained.
no subject
John nodded slowly.
"Never hurt your brother," he said softly.
And then he went quiet a moment before reaching for a cigarette. This was getting into dangerous waters. He hoped Alwyn would think of something else.
no subject
"I wouldn't, that's why I told Hex we shouldn't talk anymore," Alwyn assured him.
no subject
"It's for the best," John assured him.
"If it makes you feel any better, I've been where you're at and there's no good way to get past it. Not that I've found anyway..."
no subject
Alwyn looked puzzled by that- Because he was fine. Hex was nice, but he hardly knew the man. It was no huge loss. His only issue was his brother, and he wasn't even sure he had anything to worry about yet.
"I'm fine," he promised.
no subject
"Mmhmm," he replied around his cigarette.
"Try not to think about it anymore tonight," he said quietly. "Tell me what else you saw."
no subject
"Nothing," alwyn admitted. "I ran into Hex just after you left, then came home right after."
no subject
"That's too bad. I know there was quite a bit to see," he said.
"...We can try another one next weekend if you like."
no subject
"You said you didn't enjoy it. I don't want you to do things you don't enjoy," Alwyn said softly.
no subject
"I enjoy being with you. And I enjoy being there the first time you do things. I think it's special," he said.
no subject
"You do?" Alwyn asked.
no subject
"I do," he nodded. "I like it. New foods. New places. New films. I like seeing you discover things."
no subject
"Then we'll go," Alwyn said. "I mean, if you'd really like to."
no subject
John smiled and pulled Alwyn close.
"Something to look forward to, hmm?"
no subject
Alwyn nodded a little, but seemed contemplative, his face expressing little as his mind zoomed on behind his eyes.
no subject
John was quiet and the telly played on. He could eel Alwyn never quite relax. Finally, he turned his head to look at him.
"What's on your mind, love?" John asked softly.
no subject
"Everything," was Alwyn's simple reply. "I don't want to talk about it anymore, if that's okay."
no subject
"I won't make you," he assured him, going quiet again. John was quite content to be close and quiet.
